I am a theatre artist. Mostly I direct plays, but I also perform and create video projections for live performance. As a director I specialize in immersive theatre, digital/theatre hybrids and new writing, though I’m eager to get my hands on the canon as well. As a performer I love to perform in devised work. And as a video artist I’m passionate about experimenting with form. Recently I've also been working as a teaching artist. I particularly enjoy directing young adults.
My work ranges from San Francisco’s Fringe to London’s West End. In San Francisco I founded the theatre company elastic future. elastic future productions are often performed in unusual spaces and combine theatre with live music, visual art, fancy dress parties, and multi-media. While in San Francisco I was also the Artistic Producer of Magic Theatre and Managing Director of Crowded Fire Theatre, both companies dedicated to new plays.
I moved to London a few years ago heeding the call to adventure, and picked up an MFA at Birkbeck, University of London along the way. My secondment was at Birmingham Repertory Theatre, where I revitalized the literary department and assistant directed large touring productions including the West End production of 12 Angry Men and Khandan at the Royal Court Theatre.
My most notable production in London was an investigation of how to create plays online using Google Hangouts on Air, a video conferencing tool that is broadcast live online via YouTube. elastic future's plays Longitude and Peek A Boo were commissioned by LIFT (London International Festival Theatre) and the new BBC venture TheSpace.org. Longitude played in the Tate Modern during the LIFT festival.
As an undergraduate I studied theatre at Princeton University where I was awarded the senior prize for directing. I am originally from the mountains of northwest Georgia.
